Nora meets Nora: a new Blood Bike joins the fleet.

A Triumph Tiger 900 GT Pro commissioned for Yeovil Freewheelers has been named “Nora Arnold” in recognition of Nora's more than 30 years of outstanding service to Chard League of Friends.

The new bike was unveiled at Chard Community Hospital in February 2025, bringing together representatives of Chard League of Friends and Yeovil Freewheelers.

The overall commissioning figure for the project was £18,000. Local fundraising linked with The Original Factory Shop in Chard contributed more than £5,000 towards that total, alongside the wider support that made the project possible.

Supporting an emergency medical courier service

Yeovil Freewheelers is run by unpaid volunteers and provides an emergency medical courier service across South Somerset and Dorset. Its riders transport items including blood, samples, breast milk, medications and life-saving equipment between hospitals, laboratories and patients' homes.

The “Nora Arnold” Blood Bike is expected to be used for vital supply journeys in and around the community during its years of service.

Recognising decades of service

The name recognises Nora Arnold's more than three decades of service to the League of Friends, including her long period as Chair and her continuing connection with the committee.

Naming the bike for Nora connects a major recent project with the people who have sustained the League over many years.

Working together locally

The project also shows the role of community partnership. Supporters, fundraisers, The Original Factory Shop's Chard connection and Yeovil Freewheelers all played a part in turning charitable fundraising into a practical asset for local healthcare journeys.
